The idea for
Lean and Green® really began over 20 years ago, when founder,
Wendy Hudson Ramsey, was privileged to spend a decade working on the development of environmental and health policies for a variety of
organizations. The work prompted a deep interest in the state of our country’s health at all levels, particularly in the role of the individual and the question, “How do we encourage behavior change for healthier lifestyles?”
Wendy went to work in the field of fitness motivation for individual clients and her hope was fueled that Americans could change their habits to support the sound health and environmental policies that were so painstakenly developed at the federal level.
In 2003, the name
Lean and Green® was instated, foreseeing an eventual broadening of motivational tools (resource access, goal-setting principles) to improve community and environmental health. Coaching sessions focused on fulfilling needs and overcoming barriers to healthier behaviors. Through individual work with a small pool of clients,
Lean and Green® established itself as a resource in the Grinnell, Iowa community for those asking for accountability, motivation, and commitment for change. In 2005, its unique blend of motivational principles led
Lean and Green® to register its service mark through the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
In 2006, the corporate market presented a means to sustain information flow to clients. Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company employed Wendy on a full-time basis to develop corporate programs, identify needs for health, wellness, and safety information; and to oversee coaching services, programs, memberships, training, and tools. Building on the silver award earned in 2004 and working within the dynamic Human Resources department, the GMRC Wellness Program achieved the Gold Well Workplace Award from the Wellness Councils of America in 2009.
In 2009, Lean and Green® reinstated this website and offers its resources and experience to you.
